Homemade Vanilla Bean Coffee Syrup Recipe
This delicious homemade vanilla syrup recipe is so easy to make and is a great way to add real vanilla bean flavor to your morning coffee, other drinks, baked goodies and more!

A while ago I swapped conventional coffee creamer (trying to avoid highly processed foods) for cream and sugar but I missed the vanilla flavor was used to.
The solution: a simple vanilla syrup that adds sweetener and flavor without the extra ingredients you get with store-bought coffee syrups.
It’s so easy to up your coffee game and make your own vanilla syrup with just a couple simple ingredients you already have in your pantry!

ingredients
- Sugar – White granulated sugar.
- Vanilla Beans – You will need 10 vanilla beans for 16 ounces of alcohol. Grade B Madagascar vanilla beans are best, but you can also use Tahitian vanilla beans!
Supplies
- Saucepan – To heat the vanilla bean syrup in.
- Sharp Knife – To remove the seeds from the whole vanilla bean pods.
- Glass Bottle – You can use any airtight container or even a mason jar, but using a bottle makes it easier to pour into recipes and drinks.

Combine – In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water. Heat over medium heat, whisking until the sugar dissolves completely and the mixture is clear. Remove from heat.
Add Vanilla Bean – Using a sharp knife, carefully slit the vanilla bean in half lengthwise, not cutting all the way through. Scrape the vanilla beans out of the pod and add them to the sugar syrup.
Stir well and allow to cool or use immediately.

Storing – Store the vanilla syrup in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
Substitutions – You can use 1 Tablespoon of vanilla bean paste or pure vanilla extract in place of the vanilla bean.

FAQ about making vanilla coffee syrup
Should I use vanilla bean or vanilla extract (or paste)?
You can use any of those but they will each give the syrup a bit of a different flavor. I prefer the flavor of vanilla bean myself.
How long does homemade vanilla syrup last / what is its shelf life?
You can store the vanilla syrup in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

Can I use different kinds of sugar (brown sugar, raw sugar, etc.)?
Yes you can use other kinds of sugar (not powdered sugar) but the flavor will be darker, more like caramel.
Can I use vanilla syrup in drinks other than coffee?
Yes! You can use vanilla syrup in place of liquid sweetener to flavor teas, cocktails and iced drinks.
Why does my syrup taste weak / how do I get stronger vanilla flavor?
If your syrup doesn’t taste enough like vanilla you may need to let it “steep” longer. Using a vanilla bean instead of extract will also give you an extra rich flavor.
